Exodus Enterprises International Incorporated (EEII) has been in the
planning stages for literally 15 years, a dream of its founder, “Dutch”
Kendall. As a faithful Christian, Mr. Kendall imagined a business
where the character of the company was as important as its quality,
delivery, or pricing. From many years of experience with the world’s
largest multinational corporations, Mr. Kendall was well aware integrity
was not “a given” as it is so often described. He dreamed of
challenging the very foundations of modern business: its motives, and
then creating an “exodus” for others to follow.
Mr. Kendall realized a business’ performance is maximized when its
employees and customers are not driven by pure economics, but when
they genuinely believe they are serving a higher cause. By effectively
combining business and ministry, Mr. Kendall hoped to build a modern
successful enterprise based on biblical principles, which would
become a shining example of Christian values in action.
EEII officially began operations on May 31st, 2005 (Mr. Kendall’s
birthday), and was incorporated on December 20th, 2005 (yes, Mr.
Kendall’s Christmas present). In early 2006, Mr. Kendall partnered
with a friend and mentor, Marty Childress, who was himself an
experienced entrepreneur and devoted Christian (he was in fact, the
Kendall’s Sunday School teacher). With Marty serving as Operations
Manager and with Mr. Kendall’s wife, Teresa, acting as Office Manager
and bookkeeper, the threesome purchased a specialty packaging and
shipping operation known as “A Package Deal” in Louisville, Kentucky.
“A Package Deal” has been in operation since 1984. The business
specializes in custom packaging and shipping of large, unusual,
awkward, or high value items. It operates as a custom box or crate
manufacturer, warehouse, and freight sales agent. It is a certified DHL
and FedEx shipping center, and offer services for numerous carriers,
covering freight, household goods, antiques, artwork, vehicles, and
even hazardous materials. With this logistics operations as a
backbone, EEII hopes to build a foundation from which it can grow into
new business arenas, fully leveraging Mr. Kendall’s and Mr. Childress’
expertise in online sales, global sourcing, fulfillment, and finance.

Our Beginnings
Our Purpose
The Vision: A Letter from our CEO
In 2005, I sat down to begin writing the business plan which would ultimately allow EEII to purchase “A Package Deal” and
earnestly launch itself into the business world. A book I had checked out of the local Library suggested I begin by
documenting why exactly I wanted to start the business. It asked, “What is my true internal intent?” After a few minutes of
thought, I scribbled these words onto a piece of paper:
To fulfill God’s calling and my life’s purpose, achieving a sense of peace and satisfaction by setting an exceptional example
of Christian values, and by setting out to prove a Christian approach to business is not only commendable, but also
remarkably effective.
To challenge the very foundations of modern business: The motives for success.
To demonstrate conclusively Christianity and business do not have to be at cross-purposes, but that Christian ministry and
commerce can actually be united within a single organization to achieve success which can be measured not only on a
earthly financial scale, but also by riches in heaven.
To touch and enrich other people’s lives through passionate service to a higher cause, and by allowing them the opportunity
to participate in a healthy, productive, fun, and fulfilling work environment.
With these words our business was founded.
As the son of two extremely dedicated Christian parents, and as the grandson and namesake of a Baptist Preacher, my
Christian roots are deep. Perhaps these words come too easily to me, but I pray daily for God’s divine hand to keep me true
to this intent. If we lose sight of these tenets as our underlying motivation for everything we do, then the dream is dead and
we are nothing more than another cog in the corporate machine…
There is nothing sinful about financial success. The key question is: Why? What drives us to be successful? What is our
motivation?
After years gaining some modicum of success in the world of business, I became more and more convinced that we were
missing something, and it was BIG. If you’re like me, achieving one great success after another, but still feeling the
emptiness of knowing your precious energy has gone mostly to lining the pockets of some soulless and nameless stock
holder, then you know what I am talking about…
What if “The Goal” was different? Why can’t it be different? What if a business measured its success by how much it gave
away, by how much the employees enjoyed the fruits of their own labor, and by how many customers we had served, not
only with product but with spiritual ministry and personal fulfillment? What if business and ministry could actually be
combined into one enterprise?
I have spoken with many people about my vision, and have come to expect one of three possible reactions:
1. This guy is a complete flippin’ lunatic!
(this one is my favorite, because I find it highly motivating).
2. Well, isn’t that nice…
(He’s naive and totally hopeless,but really sweet….)
3. Wow, that is really inspiring, how can I help?
Overwhelmingly, it has been response #3, and I want to thank everyone for their encouragement.
Now here’s the part most of the big corporations of the world are missing… Not only is running your business on biblical
principles admirable in a “gee isn’t that nice” sort of way, I have come to believe it could also be incredibly effective….
As a long time student of the art of leadership, I have come to believe the greatest factor in any business’ success is the
quality and passion of its most important asset: its people. Companies which get the most from their people have the
highest probability of success. Period. Remember what I said about motivation? Well, I believe employees produce their
best work, with maximum energy, when two motivators are present:
1. When there is a collective belief that the team they are a part of is working for a higher cause… that by serving the
company, they are fulfilling a purpose more important than themselves.
2. When there is a direct and obvious relationship between the company’s performance and the personal benefits the
employees receive from the company… tying the employee’s performance directly to their compensation.
The same is true for customers. When your customers believe your intentions are righteous, they WANT to give you
business. They ROOT for you to succeed…
… and I hope in reading this letter you have been inspired to “Join the Exodus”. Start by being generous with your own time
and money. EEII has pledged, as a Corporate Mandate, that a minimum of 10% of any profits will go directly to deserving
charities, and we hope to do much more. We affectionately refer to this as our “Corporate Tithe”.
Thanks again for your encouragement and support for our business. Please pray for us, and we would love to hear from you
anytime. Drop by our store, join our Blog at www.exodusint.com, or send us an e-mail at service@exodusint.com.
